We cut this mini dress in stretch velvet with a fitted square neckline and long sleeves. Ruching runs across the high waist, leading down to a voluminous balloon hem that holds its puff. It works well for cocktail parties and evening dinners.

• Square neck cut. The neckline is cut wide and square across the collarbone. It frames the chest cleanly while the long velvet sleeves give full coverage down the arms.
• Ruched waistline. We placed horizontal gathering across the high waist section. This ruching allows the fabric to pull close over the torso before releasing into the lower skirt.
• Bubble hem volume. The short skirt is gathered inward at the hem to create a classic balloon shape. This construction gives the lower half structural volume that contrasts the close bodice.
